There part will focus on aspects more related to the intervention in the built set of ports, analysing the aspects of restoration, conservation, reconversion, etc. In this section there will be presented examples of architectural intervention which had been made in recent years
The development of methods for loading and unloading, transport and storage, as well as control and the security, has moved the ports, traditionally linked to district or city, away from urban centres due to the need for room and more control for large facilities. That has made useless the previous port facilities, which were previously inserted within the established urban area.
We would like to analyse what are the changes which have been applied to the abandoned buildings of the ports, and what are those that should be done to keep our port heritage.
In Barcelona, for instance, the older buildings have been transformed into museums, leisure centres, offices... while some still conserve the original activity. These changes have led at the same time, not only the conversion of the building itself, but the immediate environment, in other words, the recover for the town of a lost space.
